Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate hours worked?

Subtract clock-in from clock-out and take away unpaid breaks. 8:30 AM to 5:15 PM with a 30-minute lunch is 8 h 45 m − 30 m = 8 h 15 m, or 8.25 hours.

When does overtime start?

Under federal law, after 40 hours in a workweek. California, Alaska, Nevada and Colorado also have daily overtime rules.

Are breaks paid?

Federal law treats short breaks of 5–20 minutes as paid work time. Meal breaks of 30 minutes or more can be unpaid if you're fully relieved of duty.
