Frequently asked questions
Which states have no sales tax?
Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire and Oregon have no statewide sales tax. Alaska allows local sales taxes, so some Alaska towns still charge one.
Which state has the highest sales tax?
Louisiana has the highest average combined state and local rate (10.13%). California has the highest statewide base rate at 7.25%.
How do I calculate sales tax?
Multiply the price by the tax rate. $80 at 8.25% is $80 × 0.0825 = $6.60 in tax, $86.60 in total. To remove tax from a total, divide by 1 plus the rate.
