Frequently asked questions
What is the CAGR formula?
CAGR = (ending value ÷ starting value)^(1 ÷ years) − 1. Growing $10,000 to $25,000 in 8 years is a 12.1% CAGR.
What's the difference between ROI and CAGR?
ROI is the total percentage gain over the whole period; CAGR spreads that gain into a yearly rate, which makes periods of different lengths comparable.
What is the rule of 72?
Divide 72 by the annual return to estimate how many years money takes to double: about 10 years at 7%.
